Angelina Jolie to Receive Performer Tribute at the Gothams for ‘Maria’

Angelina Jolie will be honored with the Performer Tribute at the Gothams on Dec. 2 in New York City for her role as Maria Callas in the Netflix musical drama “Maria.”

“Like the legendary figure she portrays, Angelina Jolie transcends mere performance to craft something extraordinary. Her interpretation captures both Maria Callas’s complexity as an artist and the cultural resonance that defines an icon,” said Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gothams. “We are thrilled to celebrate what is truly one of Ms. Jolie’s career-defining performances in the final installment of Pablo Larrain’s magnificent trilogy.”

Directed by Pablo Larrain, “Maria” tells the story of opera singer Maria Callas during the final days of her life. Steven Knight serves as screenwriter, with Ed Lachman serving as cinematographer and Massimo Cantini Parrini as costume designer. The film had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will also be in select theaters starting Nov. 27 as well as available to stream on Netflix Dec. 11.

In addition to Jolie, the cast of “Maria” includes Alba Rohrwacher (“Hungry Hearts,” “Happy As Lazzaro”), Pierfrancesco Favino (“Padrenostro,” “Adagio”), Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog,” “Dolemite Is My Name”) and Valeria Golino (“For Your Love,” “The Beautiful Game”).

Award recipients at the 2024 Gothams will be recognized at the ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street on Dec. 2. Nominees for best feature at the Gotham Awards include “Anora,” “Nickel Boys,” “Babygirl,” “A Different Man” and “Challengers.” Best director nominations include “Anora’s” Sean Baker, “I Saw the TV Glow’s” Jane Schoenbrun, Payal Kapadia (“All We Imagine as Light”), Guan Hu (“Black Dog”) and RaMell Ross (“Nickel Boys”).
