Angler attacked by crocodile in Kuantan

KUANTAN: A man who was fishing in a river near Kampung Kurnia, Batu 3, here, was attacked by a crocodile in the early hours of Friday.

Hamid Mohd Ismail, 42, from Kuala Pahang, Pekan, suffered serious injuries to his head and body in the 4am incident.

A source said the victim was fishing in the river when a crocodile lunged at him and dragged him into the water.

“The victim kicked the reptile several times and managed to get out of the water. Villagers who heard the commotion rushed to help the victim and took him to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA),” said the source.

State Wildlife and National Parks Department director Ahmad Azhar Mohammed said the victim had safely undergone surgery at HTAA and had been moved to a regular ward.

“Once the victim is stable, we will record his statement. Our rangers have been deployed to monitor the area where the incident occurred.

“We will also look into the victim’s welfare and make other arrangements. The victim’s family in Penang has been informed about the incident,” he said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
