Angry Birds land in Finnish theme park

The Angry Birds landed in Finland over the weekend, making the Särkänniemi Adventure Park the first official place to boast attractions based on the hit smartphone game by Rovio.

With 12 rides, the new area of Särkänniemi has been created for fans of the Angry Birds franchise, widely regarded as the most successful smartphone game every produced, with rides focused on families and young children.

Among the 12 rides that make up the area are an Angry Birds carousel, the Majakka lighthouse, an adventure course and a rollercoaster, along with several themed food outlets and an official Angry Birds shop.

For visitors who need their virtual Angry Birds fix alongside the real one, strategically placed screens allow visitors to play the game that inspired the park.

Park officials say that by the time the opening of the land is officially celebrated on June 8, there will also be a new 'Magic Place' where visitors can download exclusive Angry Birds content.

Reports suggest that Rovio is planning a series of Angry Birds parks around the globe and that Särkänniemi will be the first of many -- although the Finnish trailblazer already has some competition.

Last year, details emerged of a 'real-life' Angry Birds amusement park in Changsha, China, where people could fire the furry creatures using enormous catapults.

Sadly for would-be visitors, the unlicensed park proved to be a temporary attraction, in sharp contrast to the Finnish outpost, set to become a major attraction for Särkänniemi.

"The opening of Angry Birds Land in Särkänniemi is a really big deal for us”, said Särkänniemi boss Miikka Seppälä of the opening.

"The area is definitely a must-see destination for millions of players; but also a great experience for those who are not yet familiar with the theme."
