New Angry Birds park to open in UK
A second Angry Birds theme park is set to open in the UK this summer, according to reports.
The hit mobile game will see its second global outpost open in the town of Nottingham at the end of this summer, reports the UK's Daily Telegraph, and will be specifically targeted at young children.
Like the first park, it will be an area within a separate theme park, the Sundown Adventureland, according to the report.
Guests will be able to play on themed swings, roundabouts, sandpits, climbing towers, giant dummy catapults and rides themed around the game, with the aim of encouraging young children to get outside and run around.
Sundown Adventureland's park manager said that although the park was aimed at the young, it is keen to welcome families.
Earlier this month, the world's first Angry Birds Land opened in the Särkänniemi theme park in Finland, the home country of the app's authors, Rovio.
That park features 12 rides, also aimed at families and young children, including an Angry Birds carousel, the Majakka lighthouse, an adventure course and a rollercoaster, along with several themed food outlets and an official Angry Birds shop.
Rovio executives have spoken publicly about their desire to create parks which tackle the problem of childhood obesity in the West, creating spaces where children can run around and interact with technology that encourages them to exercise.
The Angry Birds park at Särkänniemi will include an area where exclusive sections of the game can be downloaded, which should be up and ready by the time of the official opening on June 8.
More parks are expected to follow as the franchise expands, says the Telegraph.
