Annuar raises doubt over Mara's future if opposition comes to power

ARAU: Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa today has raised a question over the future of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), an institution set up to help the bumiputras and Malays, if the opposition rules the country.

He said while Barisan Nasional would continue to protect Mara, he was unsure if DAP and the opposition would do the same if they were given the mandate.

"I wonder if Mara will continue to be here if DAP is in power when it was Umno and Barisan Nasional that built it to help the bumiputras and Malays," he said in front of some 300 students at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Arau here during the Malaysia4all dialogue today.

Annuar said UiTM, which was part of Mara, was set up to provide learning facilities to the bumiputras and Malays.

He said that Mara's success was clear as it has given birth to many talented bumiputras who have helped shape the nation.

“UiTM is a product of Mara. You are the products of what our past leaders have fought for many years ago,” he said, adding that BN would continue to protect Mara and UiTM.

Annuar, who is also Mara chairman, was on a two-day roadshow to Perlis since yesterday (Saturday).

During the dialogue, he advised students to excel in both academic and co-curricular activities to better equip themselves with added value and knowledge when facing the future economic, social and political challenges.

He said as future leaders, the students need to have the right knowledge to protect the country threats from outside and within.
