The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly on the verge of a new ownership group that includes ex-MLB star Alex Rodriguez.
While Walmart CEO Marc Lore is likely the primary stakeholder in the reported deal, Rodriguez adds a face and some star power to the ownership bid.
Or one would think.
The Timberwolves Rookie of the Year candidate was asked on Tuesday if he was a fan of Rodriguez's growing up. Here's what he had to say:
'Who is he?'
Edwards: "A fan? Who is he?"
Reporter: "The baseball player? Alex Rodriguez?"
Edwards: "Yeah, nah. I don't know who that is."
Edwards: "I know he's fixin' to be the owner. But I don't know nothing about baseball."

The knee-jerk reaction to Edwards' answer goes something like: how could anybody in the world of sports and entertainment — or in America at all for that matter — not know who Alex Rodriguez is?
But Edwards' final statement in the exchange elicits a different question. Just how bad is baseball's connection with America's youth?
Edwards is 19 years old. And while it's shocking to hear a high-profile athlete who hasn't heard of a generational baseball player who just retired in 2016, it's safe to say Edwards isn't alone in his age group. Baseball's connection with Gen Z may be worse than we thought.
A-Rod introduces himself
Rodriguez didn't appear to take the exchange as a slight. In fact, he used the opportunity to introduce himself to the player whose talents he's planning to invest in.
It didn't take Edwards long to say hello back.
Maybe this is the start of a new friendship.
