26 May – Oscar and multiple Emmy Awards winner Anthony Hopkins has been revealed to be in current negotiations with Summit Entertainment to join Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker in "Red 2", according to Hollywood Reporter.
If Hopkins agrees with the deal, the 74-year-old veteran will be playing Edward Bailey, a genius and villainous scientist who was locked up in an insane asylum, but subsequently escaped, and will face off against the team of retired CIA agents.
While fans are keeping their fingers crossed for Hopkins' appearance in "Red 2", fans can dwell on the fact that his "The Mask Of Zorro" co-star, Catherine Zeta-Jones and "G.I Joe: The Rise Of Cobra" actor Lee Byun-hun have signed on to star in the sequel of the critically-acclaimed action comedy.
Directed by American director Dean Parisot, best known for the cult hit "Galaxy Quest" and the Jim Carrey movie "Fun With Dick and Jane", "Red 2" will be written by Jon and Erich Hober, who had also contributed to the first movie. Lorenzo DiBonaventura produces.
75-year-old Hopkins will also reprise his role as Thor's father, Odin, in "Thor 2". Besides being in negotiations for "Red 2", the star is currently filming Sacha Gervasi's "Hitchcock", a biographical feature about the iconic director Alfred Hitchcock, alongside his possible "Red 2" co-star, Mirren.
"Red 2" has been planned for a 2013 release.
