Antoine Fuqua's 'Scarface' remake hires Oscar-nominated scribe Terence Howard for script

Universal Pictures has tapped "The Wolf Of Wall Street" scribe Terence Howard as screenwriter for its upcoming remake of "Scarface" to "polish" the existing script (via Variety).

Having previously worked on shows such as "The Sopranos" and "Boardwalk Empire", Howard will join a team which includes "The Magnificent Seven's" director Antoine Fuqua to reimagine the iconic crime story, based on a Cuban refugee called Tony Montana who rises through the ranks to become a powerful drug lord.

Marty Bregman, producer of the 1983 remake starring Al Pacino as Montana, will serve as one the new feature's producers, with the latest adaptation set to relocate the action from Miami to Los Angeles.

Howard's hire signals the ball is rolling on production of the fresh film, although casting for the remake has yet to take place, with no scheduled release date yet either.
