KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is currently in Johor where he will be meeting Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, just days after receiving a royal pardon and being released from prison.

Malay Mail understands that Anwar just arrived moments ago at the Senai International Airport on the Johor ruler’s private jet.

“We just arrived at Senai Airport. Tuanku sent his private jet. Yes, personal invitation by Sultan Johor,” Anwar’s aide said when contacted.

It is unclear as to the purpose of the meeting, but Anwar has stated he will be travelling for a fair bit before actively taking part in politics again.

He had earlier escorted his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was sworn in as the country’s first female deputy prime minister, in addition to minister for women’s affairs, in Istana Negara.

Just yesterday, Anwar was in Jakarta where he met former Indonesian president Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Indonesia’s reformation.

Anwar has said he did not have a time frame for when he should become prime minister, but expressed his eagerness to return to Parliament swiftly.

In an exclusive interview with Malay Mail last week, Anwar said that while he will allow Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as much time as the latter needed to carry out Pakatan Harapan’s reform pledges, he was keen to resume active politics.

Anwar had been imprisoned since 2015 and was finally released on May 16.

The PKR defacto leader is immediately free to contest in polls as the royal pardon he received wipes out his sodomy conviction and the resultant disqualification.
