KUALA LUMPUR: Voters in Sungai Kandis should reject Pakatan Harapan as it has failed to fulfil the promises it made in its election manifesto, a Pas leader said today.
Party information chief Nasrudin Hassan said PH has yet to abolish tolls, reduce oil prices, and wipe out the debts of Felda settlers.
“PH must be defeated in the Sungai Kandis by-election. This will send a signal that the people will no longer be fooled by PH’s failure in delivering its promises,” he said in a statement today.
Nasrudin also accused the PH administration, which he labelled as “liberal” and “racist”, of creating an environment that enabled certain quarters to insult Islam.
He said among others, PH called for the closure of tahfiz schools and had been too permissive with the LGBT community.
He also claimed the PH propagated anti-Hadith thinking and failed to give important posts in the judiciary to Muslims.

Under the present administration, he claimed, individuals accused of being terrorist sympathisers became government officials and DAP, which he accused of being sceptical of the Islamic struggle, have become dominant in PH.
“Pas did not field a candidate because we wanted to make sure the Sungai Kandis by-election was a straight fight (between Barisan Nasional and PH),” he said, adding that Pakatan Harapan would be easily defeated if the votes were not split.
“We urge voters to reject PH in the Sungai Kandis. You have 1001 reasons to defeat PH.
“PH’s defeat in the Sungai Kandis by-election will remove their delusions of power so that they will fulfil their election promises and stop lying to the people.”
The by-election will see a three-cornered fight between Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni from PKR, Datuk Lokman Noor Adam from Barisan Nasional and independent candidate K. Murthy.
The Sungai Kandis seat was left vacant following the death of Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 due to lymphoma.
In the 14 General Election, Mat Shuhaimi garnered 23,998 votes, defeating Umno’s Datuk Kamaruzzaman Johari (11,518 votes), Pas’s Mohd Yusof Abdullah (7,573 votes) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hanafiah Husin (76 votes).
