'Shameless' MCA senators should step down, says DAP lawmaker

BANGI: A DAP lawmaker is urging MCA senators riding on the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket to step down.

Kepong member of parliament Lim Lip Eng said this was because they took their vows as BN senators rather than MCA senators.

“MCA is always giving way to BN to help the party remain in existence in today’s (political) reality,” he told a press conference at Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Balakong by-election operations room, here, today.

“I want MCA to explain why they feel no shame. They should resign from Dewan Negara.

“They are MCA senators who took their vows as BN Senators.”

In regard to MCA Balakong candidate Tan Chee Teong’s allegation that DAP was behind the damage on MCA’s campaign materials, Lim said DAP would never sabotage rival parties.

He said DAP members had behaved in a civilised manner in the 50 years that it had spent in the opposition.

He said dissatisfaction among party members would not lead to sabotage of rival parties.

“I am very angry and disappointed with MCA and its candidate (Tan) for hurling the allegation without a shred of proof.

“It is an act (designed) to damage the image and credibility of DAP and the present administration.

“MCA is willing to survive until today by playing dirty politics, hatred, religion, and race.

“We hope that MCA and its candidate will take responsibility immediately for what they have done and make an apology to avert stern action under the law.”
