Apple computers and smartphones proclaimed most reliable: survey
An annual reader satisfaction report has ranked Apple as number one notebook, desktop and smartphone maker for overall reliability, though the brand came third in the tablet category.
Apple dominated PC World's annual survey, scoring the highest marks in almost all areas. Scoring 9.3 out of 10 for overall reliability it beat Sony (8.8), which came in second and Asus (8.7), in third.
When asked which laptops are easiest to use, Apple came top again with 8.6, followed by Lenovo (8.3) and Samsung (8.2). When asked which laptops are less easy to use, HP for business topped the list, followed by Dell for Home and HP for Home.
When it came to recommending a laptop to others, again Apple came top with 9.3, followed by Samsung and Lenovo (tied in second place with 8.3) while curiously, Sony came bottom as the brand least likely to be recommended, despite coming second behind Apple in overall reliability.
Of those polled, only 10 percent claimed to use their computers solely for work, while 56 percent used them only at home and 34 percent used them for work and leisure.
The survey of 45,000 people ranked not only laptops but desktop PC, smartphone and tablet satisfaction with Apple coming out on top in all categories except, surprisingly tablets, the category it created, where it was nudged into third place. Asus, the manufacturer of the Google Nexus 7, took top honors in the category, followed by Samsung in second. Apple's comparatively poor showing was down to its lack of inputs and ports compared to its competition, although it beat all other tablets on battery life, overall speed, touchscreen responsiveness and dependability.
