Apple iOS 9 Update: The Middle Finger Emoji Is Finally Here

Apple has introduced a new set of emojis, including the much anticipated middle finger.

The rude hand gesture, which is available in a range of skin tones, means that iPhone and iPad users can now ‘flip the bird’ in messages and on social media.

The new icon is part of a new range of more than 150 emoji characters that has been introduced as part of Apple’s iOS 9.1 software update, which is now available to download for free.

The new iOS 9 operating system finally arrived with the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models, but many emoji fans were left disappointed when the range of long-awaited emojis, including the middle finger, were not included in the update.

The new 9.1 version of Apple’s operating system includes a wide range of the tiny new icons including a burrito, champagne bottle with popping cork and unicorn.

The software update also brings a series of bug fixes including an update to Apple’s ‘Live Photo’ moving pictures. The iPhone now intelligently senses when the user raises or lowers their handset so that these moments are not recorded.

Apple device users should automatically receive an update about the new software but if not, it can also be accessed on the Settings menu, under ‘General’, then ‘Software Update’.
