Apple releases four iPhone 12 models, including the Pro and Pro Max
Apple revealed four new iPhone 12 models at their media event today (14 October), and this roundup features the models we know of: 12, 12 mini, Pro and Pro Max.
This year, Apple has added an array of colours, 5G technology across the lineup.
In the media event, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg got everyone to sit up straight and pay attention as he presented plans on the iPhone 5G Ultra Wideband network and 5G network expansion plans in the US (Disclaimer: Verizon is the parent company of Verizon Media, of which Yahoo is part of). All iPhone 12 models are said to support the mmWave 5G, at least in the US.

The 5G announcement comes as Apple tries to make a big win for its company and networks.
“The arrival of 5G marks the beginning of a new era for iPhone and we’re thrilled to bring these impressive new capabilities to our customers with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
So let’s take a look at the new shiny models.
iPhone 12
The newly designed iPhone 12 models feature expansive Super Retina XDR displays for a brighter, more immersive viewing experience, and a new Ceramic Shield front cover for durability. All of the iPhone 12 models use the A14 Bionic, the same chip used in their iPad Air with improved AI processing.
The iPhone 12 carries the IP68 rating for water resistance up to six meters for up to 30 minutes.
When it comes to photography, the iPhone 12 has a new dual-camera system to capture both photographs and videos. This advanced camera system features the Ultra-Wide camera and a new Wide camera with an ƒ/1.6 aperture, providing 27 per cent more light. Night mode and Deep Fusion are now available on all cameras — TrueDepth, Wide, and Ultra Wide — for improved photos in any environment, Apple added.
iPhone 12 mini
The iPhone 12 mini carries the same features as the iPhone 12, albeit with a smaller, lighter frame at 5.4-inch.
Still, the iPhone 12 mini isn’t packed with all the winning features that the other iPhone 12 models have, like the improved telephoto camera and sensor for better low-light performance.
We reckon this model is aimed at budget-conscious users who are also targeting models like the Google Pixel 5, Pixel 4A 5G (read our comparison with the iPhone SE) and Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.
Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini will also be available in five beautiful aluminium finishes, including blue, green, black, white, and (PRODUCT)RED.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models in blue, green, black, white, and (PRODUCT)RED, starting at S$1,299 and S$1,149, respectively.
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max
The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max feature a Super Retina XDR display with systemwide colour management for colour accuracy. And iPhone 12 Pro Max offers the largest display ever on an iPhone and the highest resolution featuring nearly 3.5 million pixels.
Both iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max models carry three cameras and include the LiDAR Scanner for immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences and MagSafe, which offers high-powered wireless charging and an all-new ecosystem of accessories that easily attach to iPhone. The models also have the Apple ProRaw that helps with computational photography, so you could easily make changes like sharpness.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max carries a new sensor on the third telephoto camera that comes with a sensor-shift image stabilisation.
iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models and in four stainless steel finishes, including graphite, silver, gold, and pacific blue, starting at S$1,649 and S$1,799, respectively.
