Application rate for 2-room Flexi flats from singles down to 4.4

The application rate has steadily dropped in recent years due to HDB’s efforts to ramp up the supply of two-room Flexi flats.

The application rate for two-room Flexi flats from singles has steadily dropped from 8.5 in 2015 to 4.4 in 2018, revealed the Ministry of National Development in Parliament on Monday (19 Nov).

This comes as the proportion of applicants invited to book a two-room flat jumped to 84 percent in 2017 from 52 percent in 2015.

The ministry attributed the improvement to HDB’s efforts to ramp up the supply of two-room Flexi flats in non-mature estates – from 320 units in 2012 to an average of around 4,000 units per year from 2014.

In responding to MP Dr Lee Bee Wah’s query on how many two-room BTO flats will be made available over the next three years, the ministry said HDB will “continue to offer this same level of flat supply in 2018”.

“Beyond that, HDB will continue to fine-tune its two-room Flexi flats supply to meet the demand from singles.”

It noted that aside from purchasing a flat from HDB, singles can also buy a resale flat on the open market.

“The wide range of resale flats available, and housing grants totalling up to $60,000 for eligible buyers, will help singles to find a suitable flat within their budget,” it added.
