‘Apprentice’ Episode 7 Recap: Eugene Goes Home

We’re more than halfway through “The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition,” and the pool of global candidates is thinning out.

Only seven of the original 16 people vying for the one-year, US$250,000 contract to work under ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong as the company’s Chief of Staff remain in the competition.

Here, we recap what went down on Episode 7 – from the physical and business challenges to the elimination.

Grappling Challenge

In the physical task led by ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan and wrestling star Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat, the candidates were tasked with facing each other in a grappling challenge at Evolve MMA.

Due to the ground skills of Irina Chadsey, Monica Millington, and Eugene Chung, Team Valor scored three wins out of four matches, earning them the victory at the esteemed gym.

However, their luck would soon run out.

Wildlife Escapades

During this week’s business challenge, both teams had to put together a campaign for Wildlife Reserves Singapore under the watchful eye of Chatri, Co-Advisor Niharika Singh, and Melissa Kwee, CEO of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Center.

Once in the pitch room, Team Valor failed to present an emotionally driven presentation. Their counterparts on Team Conquest, however, did just the opposite, winning support from Chatri, Niharika, and Melissa.

In the end, ONE’s Chairman and CEO named Team Conquest as the winners.

A Surprising Cut

In most of the other episodes, Chatri brought three candidates from the losing team to the chopping block and let one or two of them go.

This time, however, was quite different.

After Chatri announced Team Conquest as the winners, he turned to Team Valor’s Eugene and immediately cut the Korean-American from the show.

It was a shocking conclusion to Episode 7, but the ONE Chairman and CEO reminded everyone afterward: “Leaders do what is right – not what is easy.”
