Diego Rivera: Murals for the Museum of Modern Art (November 13 - May 14, New York)
From the Mexican muralist's one-person show for MoMA in 1931, eight ‘portable murals' that Diego Rivera created for the museum will all be on display for the first time in 80 years. The monumental work depicts the Mexican revolution, such as "Agrarian Leader Zapata," as well as paintings of the New York working class during the Great Depression.

Ellsworth Kelly: Prints and Paintings (January 22 - April 22, California, USA) 
This retrospective of American artist Ellsworth Kelly, a key contributor to the abstract movement, features more than 100 prints created since 1988 and five paintings illustrative of his geometric shapes and bold vibrant color. The exhibition, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), is organized thematically, exploring the motifs of grids, contrast and curves.

Cindy Sherman (February 26 - June 11, New York, USA) 
A retrospective of this American contemporary photographer, known for conceptual portraits featuring herself disguised as personas that examine the media and the representation of women. The 180 photographs trace the artist's career from the mid-1970s to the present, including her Untitled Film Stills(1977-80) series, society images and the debut of recent murals. 91st Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes (March 31 - June 3, Sydney, Australia) 
The Archibald Prize is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious art awards. Since its inception in 1921 the prize has been awarded to some of Australia's most important artists, including George Lambert, William Dobell and Brett Whiteley. Each year the Art Gallery of NSW holds an exhibition to showcase Archibald Prize entries. The Art Gallery of NSW also displays landscape paintings in oil or watercolor and figure sculptures submitted for the Wynne Prize plus genre paintings, subject paintings and mural projects in the running to win the Sir John Sulman Prize.

30th Art Brussels (April 19-22, Brussels, Belgium)
The Art Brussels contemporary art fair will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2012, and  around 30,000 art lovers are expected to attend. Cutting-edge works by more than 2,000 artists will be represented by 182 galleries from 25 countries. During the art fair a number of major galleries and museums will host special exhibitions and contemporary art programs for a city-wide event that has recently been named Brussels Art Week.

Cinema
11th Tribeca Film Festival (April 18-29-May 1, New York, USA)
Co-founded by Robert DeNiro, this event screens 135 narrative, documentaries and short films from American and international filmmakers in venues around town, as well as streaming and video-on-demand, reaching beyond the 400,000 attendees. With galas and awards, this spring event has eclipsed Lincoln Center's New York Film Festival in fall.

Comedy
26th Melbourne International Comedy Festival (March 28 - April 22, Australia)
Alongside the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (August 3-27) and Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival (July 12-29), the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, regularly attracting crowds of more than 500,000.

Fashion 
Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibition (March 6 - September 16, Paris, France)
Launching while the world's fashion elite are in the French capital for Paris Fashion Week, the Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibition at the city's museum of Arts Décoratifs will celebrate the fashion house's namesake and its current creative director by comparing and analyzing their achievements during very different time periods. 18th annual Food & Hotel Asia (April 17-20, Singapore)

As Asia's largest food and hospitality trade event, the 2012 edition is expected to host 40,000 trade visitors from 90 countries. The show is made up of five specialized events that include Food Asia, Hotel Asia, Bakery & Pastry, Hospitality Style Asia and Hospitality Technology and Tea & Coffee. About 2,600 exhibitors from 65 countries will showcase their wares this year.

The 24th annual Specialty Coffee Association of America (April 19-22, Oregon, USA)
Billed as the largest specialty coffee event in the world, the 24th annual edition is expected to gather 8,000 professionals and 700 exhibitors to the show. Crowd favorites include competitions like Best New Product, the United States Barista Championship, and the US Cup Tasters Championship in which coffee connoisseurs compete to prove who has the most sensitive taste buds: in a trio of samples, competitors must identify the lone coffee that's unlike the others.

With more than 200,000 visitors and 2,300 exhibitors, it's billed as the region's largest electronics event, and it has recently expanded to take in the burgeoning game and e-reader industries too. Cirque du Soleil's 'Michael Jackson The Immortal'  (Through July 17, North America) 
Famed high-flying troupe Cirque du Soleil kicked off its tribute to the King of Pop in their own hometown of Montreal on October 2. The lavish dance-filled production is touring North America, and organizers announced that the show will tour the rest of the globe.

Drake Tour (February 14 - April 25, US, Europe)
Toronto-based rapper Drake is hitting the road in support of his sophomore album, Take Care. The "Headlines" MC will embark on what he's dubbed his 2012 Club Paradise Tour with MC Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky in supporting roles. The US leg kicks off on February 14 in Miami and wraps up March 11 in San Diego. So far, no dates for his Canadian home turf have been announced. On March 24, he kicks off the European leg in Dublin, and wraps up the tour on April 25 in Nottingham.

Death Cab for Cutie Tour (February 17 - June 7, worldwide)
American indie band Death Cab for Cutie is set to launch a world tour in support of Grammy-nominated seventh studio album Codes and Keys. The tour kicks off in Perth, Australia, on February 17 for a two-night run at the Perth International Arts Festival. The alt-rockers will then tour cities in Australia and Asia before returning to North America on April 10 for a 22-city run. The band then heads to Barcelona on May 30, followed by a show in Porto, Portugal. More European summer festival dates are expected to be announced soon.

Record Store Day (April 21, Worldwide)
The annual event will see more than 300 artists, including Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, and Bruce Springsteen, offer up new limited-edition vinyl releases, with hundreds of independent record stores around the globe participating with events and special promotions. Sport
21st Targa Tasmania rally
(April 17-22, Tasmania, Australia)
Unlike the majority of rallies, the public is invited to the Targa Tasmania to watch the almost 400 sports cars, Grand Touring Cars and sporting automobiles from the 1900s to the present race around Tasmania's roads. For 2012 the course has been elongated by 70 kilometers in a bid to “keep the event fresh to maintain its appeal to competitors."

NAB Show
(April 14-19, Nevada, USA)
More than 90,000 audio, video and film content professionals and 1,500+ exhibitors are expected to attend this year's National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB Show) in Las Vegas.
