Two-faced was how President Benigno Aquino III seemed to describe the opposition as he called on Pinoys to vote for his allies straight-ticket in the 2013 polls.
While underscoring his administration's accomplishments in his speech during Team PNoy's proclamation rally Tuesday, Aquino slammed his critics while noting their links with former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
"Sasabihin nilang bahagi sila ng tuwid na daan, pero kapag tumalikod ka, hayun at nakatawid na sa kabilang bakuran, tinitibag ang mga repormang iyong nasimulan (They say they tread the righteous path yet, as soon as you turn your back, cross the fence and demolish the reforms you have launched)," Aquino said.
His critics also claim to be his "friends and allies," Aquino said, but belittle the forward strides made under his watch.
"Ayaw nilang manaig ang tuwid na daan; ayaw nilang pumanig sa taumbayan (They don't want to tread the rightous path; they don't want to stand for the people)," the President noted. "Ang balak nila: imaniobra ang pamahalaan pabalik sa lumang sistema (Their plan: maneuver this government back to the old system)," he added.
This, as Aquino alluded to apparent pacts the opposition has made with the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
"May ilan sa kanilang magsasabing, 'nilalabanan namin ang katiwalian,'(They say they fight corruption)" Aquino said.
He added: "[K]ung ganoon, bakit ninyo kakampi ngayon ang mga tagapagtanggol at nakinabang sa nakaraang administrasyon (If so, why do you ally yourselves with the those who defended or benefited from the past administration)?"
Other bets also joined Aquino in a chorus against the opposition, particularly Senators Allan Peter Cayetano, who has recently figured in a word war with UNA stalwart and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
Senator Loren Legarda and for Senator Jamby Madrigal, among others, also referred to Senator Koko Pimentel as a fighter for clean elections while hitting 'dagdag-bawas."
Pimentel joined the Senate only after the resignation of former Senator Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri whom he has accused of having benefited from election fraud. Zubiri is now running under the UNA slate.
As he rallied the crowd behind Team PNoy, Aquino cited the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona to stressed the importance of each Senate seat.
"[M]apalad tayong may dalawampung senador na nanindigan para matapos na ang pang-aabuso sa ating hudikatura," Aquino said.
