In an unexpected collaboration, Arashi has just released the music video for their latest single Whenever You Call, also available on music streaming sites today (18 September). The ballad was written and produced by Bruno Mars, who is known for his top hits, including his own songs 24K Magic, Billionaire and Count On Me.

Not only did Bruno Mars know Arashi will be going on hiatus from next year, he had also listened to all of Arashi’s songs and even watched the videos of their live performances to produce Whenever You Call.

With multiple discussions and vocal directions from Bruno Mars, Whenever You Call is Arashi’s first ever English song. Yes, there are no Japanese lyrics at all, unlike their previous releases like In The Summer which has mostly English lyrics with about a quarter Japanese lyrics.

Whenever You Call is an emotional song which expresses the feelings of Arashi – who will be suspending their group activities during their hiatus – that their thoughts will always be with fans even during the hiatus.

These are part of the lyrics:

We don't have to be together

We could even be a thousand miles apart

This, I promise you forever

I'll always be the light that gets you out the dark

I'll come running wherever you are

My love for you ain't never gonna change

In an Instagram post by Arashi, Jun Matsumoto wrote, “We really hope this song can be a ray of light for all who hear it.”
