The Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games mostly consists of indoor disciplines like basketball, badminton, bowling, and volleyball. Esports was also included as a category during the event’s 2017 run, featuring four popular online titles Hearthstone, StarCraft II, The King of Fighters XIV, and Dota 2.
Esports made history last year at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). It was the first time esports was included as a medal event in the SEA Games, as officially sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee. Ultimately, the goal of the industry is to have esports recognized as a medal event in the Olympics.
