Arsenal defender David Luiz set to miss Dundalk Europa League clash with thigh injury
Arsenal defender David Luiz is expected to miss Thursday night’s Europa League tie against Dundalk after picking up a thigh injury in the defeat by Leicester City.
Luiz came off minutes into the second half against Leicester on Sunday after pulling up and falling to the floor when running back to defend.
The 33-year-old iced the injury after the defeat and is still being assessed by Arsenal’s medical team to learn the extent of the damage.
The centre-back, however, is expected to miss Thursday's night’s game at home to Irish side Dundalk.
Fellow Brazilian Willian is also being assessed ahead of the match after missing the loss to Leicester due to a calf issue.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is likely to make changes for the visit of Dundalk and one of those players expected to start is midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
The Egyptian has impressed this season since returning from a loan spell at Besiktas and he has confessed he feels wanted again after struggling under former boss Unai Emery.
“I love the way we train, the way he (Arteta) is assisting everything in the club now and it makes me excited to give 100 per cent for the team,” said Elneny.
“Under Emery, I was not playing much, that is why you can lose your confidence and your feeling to play.
"That is why when I went to Besiktas, on a one-year loan, I played always and brought the confidence back, and when I came back here I saw everyone happy for me to come back.”
