Arsenal are reportedly ‘prepared’ to lodge a £17m offer for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy this summer, as Mikel Arteta eyes a Kieran Tierney replacement.

The France international is highly rated at the Bernabeu but has struggled with injuries this term. Now, Los Blancos are allegedly willing to sell him.

Mendy could certainly be a solid replacement option for Tierney, who is being heavily linked with a move to Newcastle.

Indeed, as reported by TEAMtalk, the Arsenal defender is one of Eddie Howe’s primary transfer targets.

This comes after Tierney has made just five starts in the Premier League this term, following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

With that in mind, a switch to St. James’ Park is looking likely. So, it’s no surprise to see Arsenal step up their pursuit of Mendy.

However, with Manchester City, Paris-Saint Germain and ironically, Newcastle all in the race for Mendy, the Gunners face heated competition for the Madrid star.

Arsenal prepare £17m offer for Mendy

According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Arteta is very interested in bringing Mendy to the Emirates this summer.

They add that Arsenal are ‘willing’ to table an offer of £17m for the left-back and that they are the ‘most interested’ club, despite the competition.

Although, the Gunners are determined not to pay too much for the Frenchman. At the moment, it remains to be seen whether £17m will be enough to convince Madrid to sell.

Mendy joined the Spanish giants for a hefty fee of €48m (approx. £41.7m) in 2019. Since, he has made 131 appearances for Madrid, scoring five goals and making 10 assists.

In the process, the 27-year-old has helped his team to lift two LaLiga titles, a Copa del Rey and a Champions League.

So, Mendy could help bring a winning mentality to the Arsenal dressing room next season. That is something that Arteta will no doubt be looking for in the transfer market.

For now, Arsenal’s focus will be on finishing the season as well as possible, despite, in all likelihood, missing out on the Premier League title.

But, Mendy will certainly be a player to keep an eye on for Gunners fans this summer.
