Ashok Leyland Wins Tender To Supply 300 Electric Buses To Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation
Automotive manufacturer Ashok Leyland has won the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) tender for supply of 300 electric non-AC electric buses by emerging as the lowest bidder amongst five competitors.
Besides Leyland, the likes of Veera, JBM, Tata Motors and Olectra too participated in the bidding process.
This is apparently the fifth time that the BMTC issued a tender for non-AC electric buses under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicle (FAME) scheme.
As per the financial bid submission details, Ashok Leyland put forth a proposal of Rs 48.95 per km, which was quite higher than the second best bid presented by Tata Motors of Rs 54.9 per km.
The company even flew down the BMTC officials to Ahmedabad on 31st August to display their EV bus operations.
They have covered a total of more than 30 lakh kms over the fleet of 50 electric buses.
A subsidy of Rs 88 lakh per bus is anticipated out of which the Karnataka state government and the DHI subsidy will account for Rs 33 lakh per bus and Rs 55 lakhs per bus respectively, Economic Times reports.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has issued new tenders to acquire 1900 electric buses and 200 electric double deckers.
