Amazon (AMZN) stock is in focus after the company reported quarterly results and released weaker-than-expected first quarter guidance. Its cloud segment, Amazon Web Services (AWS), fell short of Wall Street's estimates, just as the cloud segments of Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT) had as well. Citizens JMP equity research analyst Nick Jones joins Market Domination Overtime co-hosts Julie Hyman and Josh Lipton to share his reaction to the print. AWS revenue came in at $28.79 billion compared to the to the $28.82 billion expected, squashing any investor hopes that Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure had lost share to Amazon. "Some investors were holding out hope that maybe Amazon was gaining more share than some of the competitors, but in a lot of the conversations I had leading up to the quarter, I think there was a fair amount of folks who were expecting the growth to not be as strong given what Microsoft reported and what Google reported," Jones explains. He notes, "The stock reaction is likely more driven on the operating income guidance more so than the AWS growth number — that's kind of how the narrative has been shifting over the last several quarters." Jones says that the "big question" for Amazon is "cloud demand" as well as AI demand.
