Anthropic has released one of its newest AI models, Claude 3.5 Haiku, for users of its AI chatbot platform, Claude. Reports of 3.5 Haiku's launch in Claude began rolling in Thursday morning on social media, and TechCrunch was able to independently confirm that the model is available in Claude on the web and mobile. 3.5 Haiku, which Anthropic unveiled in November, matches or bests the performance of Anthropic’s outgoing flagship model, 3 Opus, on specific benchmarks.

Apple brings 'Layered Recordings' to Voice Memos app in iOS 18.2 update
Alongside the release of a host of new AI features, Apple is also updating the Voice Memos app in iOS 18.2. On Wednesday, the iPhone maker announced that iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max users will be able to layer a vocal track on top of an existing instrumental recording in the Voice Memos app, without needing to use headphones. Instead, users will be able to record their instruments using the iPhone's speaker while simultaneously recording their vocals with microphones on the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

Samsung has accused India's competition watchdog of unlawfully detaining its employees and seizing data in a raid carried out in connection with an antitrust investigation on Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart, a legal filing shows. Samsung is embroiled in the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) investigation that in August concluded that the South Korean giant and other smartphone companies broke anti-trust laws by colluding with Amazon and Flipkart to exclusively launch products online.

Apple adds ChatGPT to iPhone in latest iOS update
The rollout is part of a wider deployment of artificial intelligence-powered tools in the latest updates to the operating systems for iPhones, iPads and Mac computers. The ChatGPT integration, announced in June as part of the Apple Intelligence unveil, will allow the company's Siri voice assistant tap the chatbot's expertise including on user queries about photos and documents such as presentations. The slow rollout of Apple Intelligence features so far has raised some investor worries about the strength of the iPhone 16 sales cycle.

New Zealand authorities have “no doubt” that two Vietnamese officials sexually attacked two young female servers at a restaurant during a visit to the country, but were unable to charge the men before they returned to Vietnam, police said Thursday. Vietnam and New Zealand do not have an extradition treaty so the alleged attackers cannot be forced to face charges. One of the women said they were attacked at a restaurant in Wellington in March days before Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính was due to visit New Zealand.
