Jakarta-based e-commerce platform for ‘romantic assortments’ AsmaraKu announced on Tuesday, January 26, that it has received undisclosed seed funding from Alpha JWC Ventures and IMJ Investment Partners.

Selling products such as on-demand flower delivery, lingerie, grooming, health supplements and sexual wellness products, the startup plans to use the funding to expand its selection of products and add new features.

AsmaraKu has also partnered with Popbox to provide smart locker pick-up options at train stations, shopping malls and convenience stores.

“AsmaraKu will continue to innovate and boost customer experience by increasing our privacy features from discovery phase to ordering, shipping and receiving the product,” said Co-founder William Tunggaldjaja.

Alpha JWC Ventures and IMJ Investment Partners will provide the startup with capital investment and strategic advice. AsmaraKu was self-funded prior to this seed round.

Ever since its launch in early 2015, AsmaraKu claims it has grown organically by 400 per cent.

As a B2C platform, the startup partners with official distributors with aims to revolutionise the way Indonesians discover and purchase romantic assortments by making it easy, seamless and private.

An AsmaraKu spokesperson stated that the company would focus more on educating the society at the moment, since many are still unaware of what ‘romantic needs’ entail.

Based on e27‘s observation, the startup seems to be a sole player in its field as competitors such as Kondomin and MyKondom focus more on sexual wellness products, without the romance elements.

“AsmaraKu is targetting a very large market. With the team’s experience in technology sector along with their focus
and deep understanding of the customers’ need in this unique segment, AsmaraKu is able to provide value added solution to the Indonesian market,” said Jefrey Joe, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Alpha JWC Ventures.
