BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad vowed to confront what he described as Western plans targeting the unity of his country, the Syrian presidency quoted him as saying on Wednesday.

"Our war on terrorism will not cease as long as there is one terrorist left," he said, according to the presidency's Telegram account. "We will continue to confront the Western scenarios that target the unity and sovereignty of our country."
