Atom Araullo explains reason for resignation

The ABS-CBN news reporter denies that his political views has anything to do with it

29 Aug - Journalist Alfonso Tomas "Atom" Araullo has denied rumours saying that he has resigned from his duties as a news reporter for ABS-CBN due to his political views.

As reported on Rappler, Araullo, who previously confirmed reports that he will not be working as a news reporter for the Kapamilya news division, stated that he will continue appearing in other programmes such as "Red Alert" and "Umagang Kay Ganda".

In his Facebook post entitled "For Clarity", Araullo explained that he resigned in order to explore other areas of media and to grow as journalist, and that his political views has nothing to do with the decision.

"Having studied pressing issues based on fact and with an open mind, journalists, like any other individual, should ultimately stand up for the truth. This does not weaken our journalism, it strengthens it. Our guiding principles are fairness and accuracy. As we face tougher scrutiny from the public, we in media also strive to be more transparent and open to criticism," he said.

Araullo has made various statements deemed controversial in the past, especially in regard to the Duterte Administration, sparking earlier rumours that his resignation may have something to do with his opinions.
