Aubameyang scores again in France

Rising African star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Gabon grabbed his fourth goal of the French Ligue 1 season at the weekend to earn Saint-Etienne a 1-1 draw at defending champions Montpellier.

Aubameyang is the son of a former Gabonese international and helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations they co-hosted with Equatorial Guinea.

Retired Ghana midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng was sent off as AC Milan slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Udinese, but current Black Star Kwadwo Asamoah impressed for Serie A title holders Juventus in a 2-0 victory over Chievo.

The veteran Senegal striker bagged a goal to salvage a 1-1 draw for French champions Montpellier against Saint-Etienne and prevent a third loss of the week -- including one at home to Arsenal in the Champions League. Camara netted in the second half after feeding on a pass from Remy Cabella with 20 minutes left.

Saint-Etienne had an African star of their own to thank for their point against Montpellier. Gabonese striker Aubameyang grabbed his fourth goal of the season in the third minute of first half injury time after a fine cross from Ivorian Max-Alain Gradel.

Ajaccio thanked Franco-Moroccan favourite and substitute Chahir Belghazouani for an injury-time goal which secured a surprise 2-2 draw at Bordeaux. He almost scored again seconds before the final whistle, justifying his place with veteran forward Adrian Mutu absent.

Sochaux thanked their Ivory Coast midfielder Doubai for their second goal in a 3-1 win at home to Troyes as the 24-year-old helped his side out of the drop zone.

On the scoresheet a week earlier against Hoffenheim, Democratic Republic of Congo midfielder Makiadi was out of luck at Fortuna Dusseldorf, but remained one of the most impressive performers in a 0-0 draw.

Guinea midfielder Traore came off the bench in the 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen and three minutes later provided the decisive pass for Martin Harnik to score the team's first goal.

JOEL MATIP (Schalke)

Cameroon defender Matip suffered a tough afternoon as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich won 2-0 in a game where he collected his first yellow card of the campaign.

Boateng's week was one to forget. He missed a chance to put Milan ahead in their Champions League group opener against Anderlecht, which finished 0-0 at the San Siro, and then ended his embattled side's third straight league defeat earlier than expected. Boateng was one of two Milan players sent off in a shock 2-1 defeat to Udinese, a result which left Massimiliano Allegri's side 15th in the table.

Three days after seeing Juve grab a 2-2 draw at Chelsea in the Champions League, Asamoah returned to duty against Chievo. Although Fabio Quagliarella's brace for Juve stole the spotlight in the 2-0 win in Turin, Asamoah showed once again why he is one of the linchpin's of the Serie A champions with a characteristically strong performance in midfield. He took his passing success rate to 88%, although his rate for crosses is a far inferior 38%.

The Ghana midfielder has provided strength to the Espanyol midfield and left foot can open defences, but he did not have a good day against Real Betis and was sent off for two yellow cards in a 1-0 defeat. Although his strong challenges can be risky, he was unlucky to receive a second caution for a foul on Juan Carlos.

ALEX SONG (Barcelona)

The versatile Cameroonian was brought into the centre of defence due to an injury crisis at Barcelona and did a good job alongside Javier Mascherano at the back, as he did in the same role against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League last week. Against Granada, he brought the ball out of defence and was able to combine in the Catalan side's typical passing football en route to a 2-0 win.

The experienced Nigerian striker, whose former clubs include Inter Milan and Newcastle, came on for his debut at the beginning of the second half against Real Sociedad and his goal five minutes from the end earned a 2-1 victory.

2015 Chevrolet Trax small SUV rolls back to America

For the past two years, car shoppers from Acapulco to Winnipeg could wander into their Chevy dealers and kick the tires on a city-sized sport utility vehicle named the Trax — and about 90,000 have done so. Today, Chevy revealed the version of the Trax it will bring to the United States, for those less well-heeled buyers who want the shape of an SUV without the window sticker they usually carry.

Ford Transit Skyliner concept revives the ultra-luxury van

“Once you do stand-up, you don’t want to go back.” No, we’re not talking about comedy, but rather an emerging trend in luxury transport that’s bringing us ever taller, more capacious, more pimpdillyicious limousines. The quote came from a Ford designer, Tim Stoehr, predicting an increase in interest in limos based on big vans like the new Transit. Of course, these are nothing new; up-fitters have taken quite kindly to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and apparently Ford is chomping at the bit to get in on the action, too. So Ford enlisted the help of the largest Ford dealer in the world, Galpin Auto Sports in Van Nuys, Calif., to help design and build its first super-lux Transit concept, dubbed the Skyliner.

Amazon to release smartphone later this year: report

Amazon is preparing to release a smartphone in the second half of 2014, thrusting itself into a market already crowded with Apple and Samsung models, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company aims to announce its new product by the end of June and ship to customers by the end of September in time for the holidays, the Journal said in a Friday report, citing unnamed people briefed on the matter. Amazon, it said, hopes to differentiate its phone from other models with a screen that displays hologram-like three-dimensional images, which can be viewed without special glasses. Earlier this month the retailer unveiled a new media streaming device, Amazon Fire TV, which it touted as simplifying the experience of watching video online.

One dead as S. Korea ferry with 476 passengers sinks

South Korea's coastguard said Wednesday one person had been killed as it struggled to rescue 476 people -- mostly high school students -- aboard a ferry that ran aground and sank off the southern coast. "The ferry is almost completely submerged," Lee said, adding that a detachment of South Korean Navy SEALS were taking part in the rescue. Of the 450 passengers on board the ferry bound for the southern resort island of Jeju, 325 were students from a high school in Ansan, south of Seoul. The 6,825-tonne ferry, which had sailed out of the western port of Incheon on Tuesday evening, ran into trouble some 20 kilometres (13 miles) off the island of Byungpoong.
