Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu), Sep 25 (ANI): A Biogas Plant in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu is producing electricity from waste materials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in August also appreciated this green initiative. The biogas plant has been set up under National Rurban Mission (NRuM) with the help of locals and Panchayat. The capacity of this pant is to process 2 tonnes of waste per day. Speaking to ANI, Sivaganga District Collector, Thiru P. Madhusudhan Reddy said, "It is a plant set up under (NRuM) with the help of local people and Panchayat. Segregated wet waste materials of hotels and households are processed in the plant to produce electricity, organic manure for farming, nursery,” said Sivaganga DC. “Plant capacity is 2 tonnes but currently, 1.2/1.3 tonnes of waste per day is processed which is illuminating 200 street lights in the nearby areas and are further planning to set up such plants in other districts also,” he added.
