Australian Open results LIVE: Tennis action and Tuesday’s order of play after Djokovic, Federer and Gauff win
Welcome to the Evening Standard’s LIVE coverage of this year’s Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic progressed to the second round but the Serbian did drop a set in the first round for the first time in 14 years but recovered to beat Jan-Lennard Struff.
Roger Federer is also through after defeating Steve Johnson in straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-2), while Cori Gauff had another memorable meeting with Venus Williams.
The 15-year-old defeated her veteran American compatriot in straight sets (7-6, 6-3) to repeat her heroics from Wimbledon in what was a dream start to her debut at the Australian Open.
She will face Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the second round on Wednesday.
