The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has issued a recall on Coffee Tree MyCafe’s “4-in-1 Penang Durian White Coffee” mix following reports of consumers in Malaysia being hospitalised after drinking it.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (4 February), the AVA said it has asked its Malaysian counterparts for the facts of the case and that the recall was issued as a “precautionary measure”.

“Consumers who have purchased the product can return them to the retailer,” said the AVA in its post, adding that it would be conducting its own tests on samples of the product.

Consumers of the coffee mix were also advised to seek medical attention should they feel unwell after taking the drink.

According to Malaysian media reports, tests conducted by the health authorities in Penang on a sample of the coffee mix in Penang found it to contain a kind of drug, although no further details were given.

While Malaysia’s Health Ministry has not issued a seizure order on the product, consumers there have been advised to avoid consuming it until investigations are completed.
