The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman Jacob MacDonald to a two-year extension through the 2021-22 season, the team announced on Friday.
MacDonald leads all American Hockey League defensemen with 16 goals in 2019-20 and is fourth among league defensemen with 42 points in 56 games for the Colorado Eagles.
The 27-year-old was acquired by the Avalanche in a trade with the Florida Panthers in June last year.
He played in two games with the Panthers last season and scored his first NHL goal in Florida's 2018-19 opener at Tampa Bay.
MacDonald has 58 goals and 106 assists in 238 career AHL games and was named to the league's First All-Star Team in 2017-18 while then with the Binghamton Devils.
News of MacDonald's extension follows on from Colorado confirming on Thursday that an unnamed player who had tested positive for coronavirus had recovered from the illness.
