Avatar 2 has shared a first look at The Sopranos star Edie Falco's new character.

The official Avatar Twitter account has given viewers a sneak peek at General Ardmore, the new head of RDA activity on Pandora.

She will be played by Falco in the second Avatar film and possibly beyond.

"Here's a behind the scenes still of Edie Falco as General Ardmore, the new head of RDA activity on Pandora," the tweet reads.

General Ardmore would presumably replace the authoritative role played by Stephen Lang's Colonel Quaritch in the original film.

The character met a grisly end in the first movie but will somehow appear in all three Avatar sequels in an ongoing role.

"There's not a new villain every time, which is interesting," director James Cameron previously said.

"Same guy. Same motherf**ker through all four movies... I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park."

As well as playing Carmelo Soprano on The Sopranos, Falco has starred in Nurse Jackie and 30 Rock.

The first look at her character follows a new direction being teased for the Na'vi in Avatar 2 and an Avatar comic book sequel being announced for next year.

Avatar is now available to watch on services including Disney+ and Amazon Prime. Avatar 2 will be released on December 16, 2022 in US and UK cinemas, with Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 expected to follow in December 2024, December 2026 and December 2028 respectively.
