Avram Glazer hints at transfer plans as Manchester United co-owner backs Erik ten Hag

Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has suggested the club will make the necessary transfer funds available to new manager Erik ten Hag.

Dutchman Ten Hag has now taken charge at Old Trafford, giving his first press conference on Monday where he insisted he was not taking a risk by making the move to United and confirmed that he sees Cristiano Ronaldo in his plans.

Glazer very rarely comments on United and the club’s affairs, but he accepted the campaign had been a poor one when asked by a reporter. When pressed on whether Ten Hag would get the resources he needed, Glazer insisted that had always been the case.

“It is a disappointing season, a disappointing season for everyone. But we’re gonna work hard to make next season a better season,” Glazer told Sky Sports.

He added: “We’ve always spent the money necessary to buy new players.”

After the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier in the season, Ralf Rangnick came in as interim boss at United but he was unable to have the desire impact as United finished sixth in the Premier League, only avoiding seventh and a place in the Europa Conference League due to West Ham’s final-day defeat to Brighton.

There is plenty of work for Ten Hag to do, as he leaves Ajax following a successful five-year spell in charge, though there is no doubt from those above him that he will be a success at Old Trafford.

“That’s why we hired him, he’ll do a great job,” Glazer said.
