Babysitter faces possibility of 30 years in jail for causing death of 3-year-old girl

PETALING JAYA: A babysitter faces the possibility of a maximum 30-year jail term after being charged at the Sessions Court today with causing the death of a three-year-old girl under her care.

Gloria Erren Liwie, 23, claimed trial to committing the offence at her apartment at No 17-18, Block A, Impian Baiduri in Sungai Way, between 1pm and 4pm on March 14.

The petite Gloria, who was wearing a white tee-shirt and black jeans, and with shoulder length hair, looked dazed as the the charge was read out to her.

Deputy public prosecutor V. Suloshani did not offer bail.

Counsel Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff, in requesting for a lower bail amount, told the court that Gloria has an 11-month-old child, whom she is still breastfeeding.

"Her husband is a van driver and his monthly income is RM1,400. The court can impose a reasonable bail amount by imposing additional bail conditions," he said.

Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam fixed bail at RM15,000 in one surety, and imposed additional bail conditions which willl require the accused to surrender her passport to the court, report to the nearest police station once a month, and is prohibited from witness tampering.
