The 2020 British Academy Film Awards are very nearly upon us and, as such, a celebrity stock of the highest calibre is preparing to make the journey to London for the ceremony.

But with the environmental impact of countless trans-Atlantic private jet trips at the forefront of everybody's minds, long-haul travel for the February 2 awards ceremony is being engineered a little differently.

Teaming up with BAFTA as an official partner, American Airlines is offering celebrity invitees the opportunity to travel on an AA boeing or airbus, without sacrificing on the private-jet-like experience.

And considering the awards show shortlist includes the the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron, Joaquin Phoenix, Quentin Tarantino and Leonardo DiCaprio, you'd better bet the preferential treatment is at the very top end of the luxury spectrum.

ELLE spoke to Jon Bird, Director of International Marketing at American Airlines, to find out just what delights are in store for celebrity guests who opt to travel with them ahead of their evening at the Royal Albert Hall. And let's just say, if the free pyjamas don't do it for you, the private terminal and spa-like showers probably will...

'Our fleet of aircraft offers Hollywood-style luxury,' says Bird, 'From lie-flat seats to chef curated meals and paired wines selected by our in-house sommelier, we want all of our customers to feel like Hollywood royalty. This goes far beyond the experience onboard, we also offer Five Star service to ensure smooth transitions through the airport, tarmac collection to avoid the paparazzi and spa-like services in our London Heathrow Arrivals Lounge to ensure customers feel red-carpet ready.'

Guests coming from Los Angeles:

We recently discovered, thanks to Chrissy Teigen, that Hollywood stars are exempt from the regular departure lounge queues, thanks to the fact that they get to use a totally separate, private terminal at LAX.

American Airlines confirms the news, explaining that BAFTA stars will be picked up by Cadillac and chauffeured to The Private Suite, which is the name for this private terminal. And once inside, they'll be escorted through private security to the Flagship First lounge, where they can enjoy an à la carte meal.

Guests coming from New York:

In the absence of a private terminal - really New York?! - a helicopter service is being laid on to swiftly ferry guests from downtown Manhattan to JFK. Because who sits in traffic when you've got an award to accept?

On the Plane:

The perks don't stop once they're safely deposited in the Flagship First seats on the plane.

Some guests might choose to deploy the fully lie-back seats, pop on their complimentary pyjamas, provided by US sleepwear brand Casper and snooze all the way to the capital city, but those who prefer to remain awake have other distractions to take advantage of.

Plus meals curated by acclaimed chefs from the James Beard Foundation, which prides itself on cooking with sustainable ingredients and mentoring up and coming chef talent.

Artichoke ravioli, anyone?

And all of these meals come complete with wine pairings hand-selected by Master Sommellier Bobby Stuckey, because obviously, which include Trefethen Estate cabernet from the Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District, Domaine des Sénéchaux châteauneuf-du-pape to Planeta fiano from Sicily and Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle champagne.

Upon arrival into London Heathrow:

Once they've touched down on British soil, the 5* customers will be welcomed by an arrivals lounge sporting deluxe showers, hair dryers and a clothes pressing service, to make sure those Heathrow arrivals pap shots are flawless, of course.

Lucky, lucky A-listers...
