BALAKONG: MCA Balakong by-election candidate Tan Chee Teong says he has been receiving the full support of Umno, Barisan Nasional, MIC and various non-governmental organisations throughout his campaign effort.
“They are my friends. My long-time friends. They have helped me throughout my campaign and when the people have problems, they also help to solve them,” he told the New Straits Times after his walkabout programme at the market in Taman Balakong Jaya, here, today.
Tan refused to comment when he was asked whether MCA had received any funds from the parties for the campaign programmes.
Tan said he had received a good response from Balakong folk.
Asked what strategies he would be adopting for the remainder of the campaign period, Tan said: “I don’t have or need strategies for me to get closer to the people.
“I was born and raised here. I am a part of the community. The problems that people here face are also my problems.
“I pledge to bring up important and unsolved issues here, and solve them if I win.”
He said the the implementation of the Sales and Services Tax was like “robbing” the lower-income group.
He said the Pakatan Harapan-led government should not have implemented the tax as it would impact the people negatively.
