SELANGOR: Early voting in the Balakong state seat by-election saw a 100 per cent turnout hours before the deadline of noon today.
The voting, which began at 8am at the Seri Kembangan Police Station staff quarters here, saw 31 police personnel cast their ballots.
Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman Tan Sri Othman Mahamood said that as of 9.15am, all 31 police personnel had voted.
"The EC is happy to see a 100 per cent turnout of early voters, despite the closing time being 12pm," he said when met at the polling centre.
The early voters were choosing between Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Wong Siew Ki and MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong.
Also present was Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof and Returning Officer, Datuk Rosli Othman.
Tan Chee Teong was also at the polling centre to check on the voting progress.
About 62,219 registered voters will be casting their ballots in the Balakong by-election set for Sept 8. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
