BANGI: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate Wong Siew Ki is unfazed by Pas’s cooperation with MCA in the campaign for the upcoming Balakong by-election.

She said that this is because the people will have the wisdom to see the fragility of the political collaboration and back PH instead.

She pointed out that elections are not won by political leaders merely directing their followers to vote a certain candidate.

“I am not worried by the cooperation as it is not the first time (in allusion to the 14th General Election). The people here are wise enough to determine who they would support.

“This is not a matter of a leader saying go vote for someone, and we go vote.

“Everyone has their own personal wisdom to see who is capable of bringing a brighter future to themselves and Balakong,” she said.

Wong, who is from DAP, was speaking to the media after the launch of the coalition’s manifesto for the Balakong by-election here late this morning.

On Sunday, Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly said that the Islamist party would cooperate with MCA in the Balakong by-election.

Over whether Wong was concerned with MCA’s decision to rely on its yellow star party logo for this by-election, she said she was not.

She said this is because MCA would face the problem of needing to let voters know about the party symbol in light of MCA having relied on the BN coalition logo all this while.

“They (MCA) need to tell the people to vote for them in a similar way that we (PH) have to go out to let people know about the PH logo.

“However, we will not face any problems as the residents here are familiar with and welcome our logo,” she said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
