BANGI: The Balakong by-election on Sept 8 will see a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and MCA. Returning Officer Datuk Rosli Othman, while announcing this, said; “No nomination form was rejected. I hereby announce that the Balakong by-election candidates are MCA’s Tan Chee Teong and PH’s Wong Siew Ki.”

Both candidates will now embark on a 21-day campaign, which starts today and ends at 11.59pm on Sept 7.

Tan and Wong arrived at the nomination centre to submit their nomination papers at 9.06am and 9.13am, respectively. Tan was accompanied by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, while Wong was accompanied by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The Balakong seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Eddie Ng Tien Chee, in an accident at KM11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.

In the 14th general election, Ng retained his Balakong seat for the second term after defeating Lim Chin Wah from Barisan Nasional and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali of Pas with a 35,538-vote majority.
