Baling horror crash: Health Dept monitoring survivors' mental health


ALOR STAR: The Kedah Health Department has provided first aid psychological counselling to three daughters of a senior police officer, whom with his wife, were killed in an accident in Baling on Tuesday.

Kedah Health Department director Datuk Norhizan Ismail said the girls, Irdina Aliah, 11; Insyirah Aliah, 10; and Imanina Aliah Mohd Noor, six; were still traumatised by their loss, and the department is monitoring their condition closely.

"The children are also under the watchful eyes of the state Welfare Department.

"We want to ensure their psychological condition is stable," he said in a statement.

In the 7.15am incident, Baling district police Narcotics Investigation Department chief, Assistant Superintendent Mohd Noor Mat Yaub, and his wife were killed, while their four children were injured in an accident involving three vehicles at a junction in Kampung Teluk Teduri.

Mohd Noor, 38 and wife Suriya Abd Rahman, 37, died at the scene due to multiple injuries.

On another note, Norhizan said Idrina and Imanina are in physically stable condition after undergoing surgery at the at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani, to correct their broken bones.

Meanwhile, Kedah Education Department director Datuk Azuyah Hassan, in a statement, said the department would provide financial aid to the family and help with the children's education once they have recovered from their injuries.
