CEBU CITY — 33-year-old Karen Mae Calam was overwhelmed after passing the 2016 bar exams upon knowing that she did not only pass the bar exams, but topped it as well.
The University of San Carlos Cebu graduate aced the bar exams with a grade of 89.05 percent.
Karen said she prayed to enter the top 10; the answer to her prayer was more than that.
“It is overwhelming. When they showed me the results, I said, ‘is this true?’ when my fiancé called me he burst into tears it’s like everything is overwhelming,” Calam said.
Calam hailed from a simple family in Bukidnon. She finished elementary and high school from a public school, and graduated cum laude in accountancy in the University of San Carlos.
It has been Calam’s childhood dream to become a lawyer and a certified public accountant.
“Since childhood my parents have been telling me to be a CPA-lawyer but without pressure. To be fair with my mother she did not pressure me saying, ‘Do this already.’ No, I could do it whenever I wanted,” she added.
Calam is thankful to God for this success and dedicates it to her family.
“I remember I prayed last time… I was thinking, Lord if I top the bar I want to be an inspiration to all those who are studying in public school that there’s actually…it’s really possible for you to have this, as big as this,” she said.
She also advise those who dream of becoming a lawyer and CPA to have a balanced life, study hard, and to spend time with their family. Alongside the hard work is the faith in God.
Calam is currently working in an accounting firm in Cebu and is planning to marry her fiancé who is also a lawyer — Gladys Toabi | UNTV News & Rescue
