Battlestar Galactica takes off again at Universal Studios Singapore

The Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs CYLON rollercoaster ride reopened Wednesday at Universal Studios Singapore (USS) with a new seat design.

The ride, which had been closed for almost two years, had four seats in a row, but it has now been reduced to a two-seater.

Resorts World Sentosa senior vice president of attractions John Hallenbeck said the new design is made to provide an enhanced experience.

“Previously, the ones in the middle felt sheltered but now everyone has an outside seat. You can really feel you’re in control of driving the vehicle," he noted.

When asked about the close to two-year hiatus of the ride, Hallenbeck said it was merely routine maintenance.

“It’s not uncommon. USS celebrates its fifth year this year, so we looked at attractions to enhance. There’s obviously approvals and things that need to happen, so all that takes some time," he explained.

He added that all rides go through routine tests for safety and guest satisfaction.

“We do cycle testing, satisfaction testing and technical and operational testing – the normal tests we do for any attraction," he said.

Hallenbeck said that it was mere coincidence that the ride reopens with the school holidays beginning next week.

Said to be the world’s tallest dueling roller coasters, the return of this ride is the highlight of the park’s 5th anniversary celebrations.

There will be a special promotion for Singapore residents from May 27 to July 31, when people can purchase an adult day pass at S$68, which comes with a free meal and gift.

The ride immerses riders in an on-going battle between cylons and humans from the TV series Battlestar Galactica, intertwining two separate but simultaneous rollercoaster rides.
