Emma Watson might only have been paid a relatively minor salary of $3 million (£2.4 million) for playing Belle in Disney’s live-action remake of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, but the movie should make her a fortune.

In fact, it could well make her the highest-paid actress of the year.

In a shrewd business move, the Harry Potter star is said to have taken a profit-sharing deal with Disney, meaning that if the movie is heading for ‘Maleficent’-sized grosses, she stands to make north of $15 million (£12 million), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Maleficent’ hauled in $759 million (£607 million) worldwide in 2014, and so far ‘Beauty and the Beast’ has made a monstrous $462 million (£369 million) since its release on March 17.

The previous largest yearly haul for an actress was Jennifer Lawrence’s $15 million, the sum she earned for the last in the ‘Hunger Games’ series.

At 26, Watson is, of course, already staggeringly wealthy.

She made $60 million for the Harry Potter movie series, which she started at the age of 11 with ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’.

That movie made nearly $1 billion alone, the eight films in total netting a mind-boggling $8.2 million.
