Ben Yuen will not attend 56th Golden Horse Awards

16 Oct – Although he is nominated in the Best Actor category at this year's Golden Horse Awards, Hong Kong actor Ben Yuen recently revealed that he will not be able to attend the event.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who spoke to the media at the launch of ViuTV's 2020 programme line-up in Kowloon, revealed that his company has already arranged for him to go to Japan for a drama coaching job even before the nomination list came out.

"I didn't even expect that I would be nominated, but unfortunately I can't attend," he said.

Asked if he has confidence in his own chance of winning, Ben - who won Best Supporting Actor at the event last year for his role in "Tracey" - said that he won't think about it.

"As an actor, you can only do your part and not think about the result," he said.

As for the reality that many Hong Kong filmmakers are forgoing the event following China's decision to ban its artistes and production companies from participating, Ben said, "For whatever reason that they decided not to go, we should respect everyone's wishes."

Ben is nominated in the said category for his role in "Suk Suk".
