Manila, Philippines -- Abra's No. 3 Most Wanted crime suspect, also one of the suspects in the 2006 killing of Congressman Luis Bersamin and his driver, was arrested in Quezon City over the weekend while allegedly plotting to kill the sister of an Abra politician.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano identified the arrested suspects as Lindon Alzate, 31, and Ronald Bolor, 33, both natives of Abra.
Albano learned from the Intelligence Division of the Abra Provincial Police Office (PPO) that Alzate is also involved in the murder of Bersamin and his driver in front of the Mount Carmel Church in Quezon City on Dec. 16, 2006.
Albano pointed out that with the arrest of Alzate the QCPD was also able to foil plans to kill an Abra politician's sister who lives in Quezon City. For her protection, he declined to name the woman who lives Barangay Bagong Silnagan.
In the meantime, Albano said that they are now hunting down two other companions of Alzate working with him to take out their target in Quezon City.
Alzate and Bolor who were riding together aboard a motorcycle last Saturday night were arrested at a checkpoint set up by the QCPD Station 6 on J.P. Rizal Street in Barangay Bagong Silangan.
Superintendent Ramon Pranada, station commander, said that arresting police seized from Alzate a .22-caliber Llama pistol and two mobile phones.
Pranada said that text messages on the mobile phones showed that they had intended to kill the politician's sister in Quezon City.
The police official said that the politician's sister had already seen the suspects in her neighborhood for around a week now.
She said she saw Bolor inside her compound after climbing the fence and then getting out again to run to a waiting motorcycle manned by Alzate.
Because of this, Pranada said she immediately reported the incident and Station 6 police immediately set up the checkpoints that led to the suspects' arrest.
Pranada learned from Alzate himself during interrogation that the suspect had conducted surveillance operations on Bersamin before his group killed the congressman in 2006.
Alzate who is positively confirmed as a member of a private armed group of a politician has pending arrest warrants for a murder case and two frustrated murder cases in Abra, Pranada cited.
