Bersih needs eyes and ears during rally, says organiser

Electoral reform watchdog Bersih 2.0 is calling for volunteers to be the eyes and ears of the Bersih 4 rally by signing up as a member of its video documentation team. The team will help capture rally scenes including any possible trouble. Rally secretariat head Mandeep Singh said they needed more to sign up for the team, which uses the CameraV application, where volunteers would only need an android handphone or video camera to be able to take a video and to upload it into a verified system for safe-keeping. He added the application would capture the location details of where the image or video was taken and cannot be subject to any manipulation. "Once volunteers register with us, we will know which gadget the image came from, the exact location and there can be no question of it being an old image. "This can be uploaded on social media and can be used as evidence if need be. "We also want our volunteers to record well-behaved and outstanding rally participants. So, this is not only about capturing untoward incidences," Mandeep told The Malaysian Insider. Those who sign up will also be trained on how to record videos of any unexpected scenes while maintaining their safety. Mandeep also said they needed more volunteers to clean the streets of Kuala Lumpur during the 34-hour rally, adding that 300 have signed up so far, but they still needed 700 more volunteers. The rally, scheduled to last 34 hours from this Saturday, is demanding reforms in the election system, governance, freedom to protest, parliamentary democracy and the economy. – August 25, 2015.
