Sometimes in life, we all need a good cry, and there's no better way to let the tears flow than to watch a sad movie.

From upsetting true-story tales to heart-wrenching romantic dramas, Hollywood and its counterparts have been releasing sad movies for decades. But which one will make you weep the most?

Titanic (1997)

No list of sad films would be complete without Titanic. It's an iconic movie that has been making viewers cry for over 20 years. Based on real events of the sinking ship, it tells the story of Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) - two people who come from different worlds but fall for each other aboard the Titanic. An absolute must-see.

When a happy couple played by Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson bring an adorable puppy into the family, they find that Marley teaches them some important life lessons. It makes the ending to this film one of the saddest of all time - dog-lovers will find it particularly heartbreaking.

A romantic drama that's based on Cecilia Ahern's book of the same name, this one tackles grief and loss. When Holly (Hilary Swank) loses her husband (Gerard Butler), she finds the strength to keep going through the series of letters he leaves behind to guide her.

Set during World War Two, this is an incredibly sad movie that sees the horrors of the Holocaust through the eyes of two eight-year-old boys.

Based on Jodi Picoult's novel, My Sister's Keeper is about a young girl called Anna whose sister has leukaemia. The movie throws up moral dilemmas and tough ethical quandaries, and will make you cry - a lot.
