The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) launched the fire lane on Edsa yesterday.
Through a fire drill, the BFP showed how to respond to fire incidents using the fire lane.
The fire lane aims for faster response to fire incidents.
“Lane number 4 on Edsa is designated as the fire lane so that vehicles on lane 4 have the option to go to either lane 3 or lane 5,” BFP regional director SSupt. Rico Kwan Tiu said.
The BFP calls on the public to give way in case there are fire trucks responding to fire incidents even during rush hours.
“From today, responding fire trucks or those heading for the fire station will be using the fire lane,” Tiu said.
The BFP also strictly prohibits parking around or blocking fire hydrants.
The BFP said they will be forced to break the glass of vehicles that block a fire hydrant.
“We won’t shoulder the cost. Instead the vehicle owner will incur violations and will face charges for obstruction of fire hydrants,” he said. – Bernard Dadis | UNTV News & Rescue
